8. player. 50. . Defensive Tackle. Houston. Ed Oliver

The Detroit Lions went into their Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Chicago Bears with a lot of things going their way. First, they were playing at home on Thanksgiving, which is an annual tradition. Second, the Bears were without their quarterback, as Mitchell Trubisky missed the game with a shoulder injury.

All that did not matter, as the Bears ended up beating Detroit on the road, as they continue to display their dominance in the NFC North. The Lions, on the other hand, look to be headed for a winter outside of the playoffs, and you have to think they need to make wholesale changes to this defense.

Sitting at No. 8 overall, the Lions could end up getting a guy like Ed Oliver, who has seen his draft stock take a bit of a hit over the last few weeks. First, he was seen blowing up on head coach Major Applewhite on the sidelines, and the next week, was seen crying on the sidelines. Not a good optical for a guy who wants to go early in round one.

Still, when it comes time for the NFL Scouting Combine, Oliver’s talent will show through, and he will likely find himself drafted in the top-10 of the 2019 NFL Draft. If he does fall  to the Lions, they have to grab him, as he would be their best defensive tackle since Ndamukong Suh manned the middle of their defensive line.
