5. Orlando Magic (No. 16 pick)

You know Bol is on John Hammond’s draft board. We have a very established track record that Hammond’s vision board is just the word “WINGSPAN” in all caps over a picture of Mo Bamba. But you know what? Bol might actually be a good fit for the Magic, and the Magic may be a good fit for him. Now, there’s an obvious log jam in the frontcourt for Orlando, with Bol potentially joining Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac, and Bamba in Orlando investments at the five. The Bol/Bamba pairing, in particular, sounds amazing on paper but may be impractical in reality, with both guys being a little slow and a little stiff on the defensive end despite maybe stretching across the entire baseline with their arms.

Bol would be an interesting fit next to the Magic’s two fours, though. Gordon and Isaac are both going to continue to play a large amount of 3 despite having the skill set of a 4, and Bol can help the Magic maintain length and play either of those guys in their natural offensive roles while maintaining spacing. Bol can sit on the perimeter as a wing 3-point shooter, using gravity to open up lanes for Gordon in the pick-and-roll or Isaac strong side face-ups. He can align much of playing time early on with Isaac, a player who can take primary defensive assignments, allowing Bol to hang over the top and learn to be a rim protector without bleeding points.

This wouldn’t be the best pick for Orlando, as it makes a pretty needless Bamba/Bol decision imminent down the line. But as far as pure roster fits, Bol would have a great chance of succeeding playing next to Gordon and Isaac.
