Madden ratings: 5 players who were snubbed from the Madden 99 club
Patrick Mahomes
It is absolutely baffling to see Mahomes left out of Madden’s 99 club, because the assumption would be that the cover guy is the best player in the NFL. In hindsight, that’s not a great assumption, since Peyton Hillis was the Madden cover guy in Madden 12. But that was also because 1) Fullbacks are funny and 2) People were really scared of the Madden curse.
Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL. Even in a league where Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers still exist, Mahomes is head and shoulders above everyone else. Compare how Jared Goff played against the exact same defense Mahomes faced two weeks earlier in the AFC Championship Game, and the incredible gap in quality between Mahomes and a “good” quarterback becomes evident.
Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar led the league with 50 touchdown passes and 9.6 yards per pass attempt, completing 66 percent of his passes despite averaging a whopping 13.3 yards per completion. Not afraid to sling the ball deep but more than capable of leading his receivers perfectly on underneath throws, Mahomes is a machine who makes averaging around 320 yards per game seem routine.
He’ll get to the Madden 99 club within weeks of the 2019 regular season.
