2. Houston Astros, 100-53, 1st in the AL West (ranked 2nd last week)

The Astros are the first team to 100 wins this season, winning five straight games after being swept by the A’s last week. They’ll finish the season facing the Angels twice and the Mariners and should clinch the AL West this weekend.

Gerrit Cole also eclipsed the 300 strikeout mark earlier this week and fellow starter Justin Verlander is closing in on his 300th strikeout as well, only 17 away. But the lineup is finally healthy and rolling and Alex Bregman is making a real case for AL MVP honors.

1. New York Yankees, 99-54, 1st in the AL East (ranked 1st last week)

The Yankees just narrowly edge out the Astros this week, despite Houston getting to 100 wins before them, getting back Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Severino this week is a huge swing in momentum for the New York.

Getting both of those guys back with about a week left in the season isn’t ideal, but if they can both contribute to an already elite team, it’s hard to see the ceiling for the Yankees because it’s going to skyrocket. Bronx Bombers get their top bat back and it’s enough to crown them the top team this week in our Power Rankings.
