DraftKings NBA picks January 18: Drummond beats on the Hawks
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Small Forwards:
Best Bets:
LeBron James ($11,000): LeBron actually hasn’t abused Houston as bad as you may think. Marquee games and opponents usually bring out the best in LeBron, but he only averaged 48.5 DraftKings points per game against them last year and 46.5 over 30 career games against the Rockets. This Houston team doesn’t defend as well though, and this year, LeBron just looks like he does what he wants. Take it for what you will.
Tobias Harris ($7,600): It certainly was disappointing that Harris followed up his monster against Brooklyn with a lackluster night against the Bulls. Those kind of swings are completely out of character for Harris. He’s usually about as consistent as they come. This is a prime bounce back place against the Knicks. Then again, it could be a blowout and Harris may only see 28 minutes. There’s just enough uncertainty for me to feel comfortable fading this.
Honorable Mention:
Andrew Wiggins ($6,900): Would you look at that! Towns returns and Wiggins promptly jacks up the production. At this point, it’s all an effort thing. Wiggins just didn’t care when Towns was out. It’s unfortunate, really. It is what it is. I have a feeling that Minnesota may rest Towns. If they do, there’s no way I’m taking a chance on Wiggins. Hell, he’s a big enough risk with Towns in there.
Danilo Gallinari ($6,600): This is a good matchup for Gallo even though he left a lot to be desired against Portland the first time around. He’s a different player right now. Gallinari hasn’t been under 32 DraftKings points in the last seven games and has cleared 40 a few times in that span. I’ll bank on him to continue the hot streak tonight.
Evan Fournier ($5,900): Fournier nearly hit 40 against the Warriors in the first meeting. I don’t really expect that here, but I would bet mid 30’s or so. Vucevic has sapped come of Fournier’s production. However, the Warriors are strong against centers. Fournier should soak up the extra production that they take from Vucevic.
Dark Horses:
Joe Ingles ($5,500): Ingles is probably going to lose some production with Conley back, but I am expecting him to be severely limited. Ingles is still priced low enough that he’s worth putting out there. Just don’t expect him to hit 40 DraftKings points anymore.
OG Anunoby ($5,200): For now, I still think OG is safer than Powell should VanVleet return. Anunoby has been a plus defender since he arrived in the league, but he’s starting to sport some offense to go with it. Some of that is going to evaporate if VanVleet it back, but this is Minnesota. OG could still blow past 30 DraftKings points for the third straight game.
Mikal Bridges ($4,500): It is really difficult to trust Bridges right now. He’s starting, but that hasn’t guaranteed production. Bridges is still horribly inconsistent and paying this much for someone like that is inviting disaster to your lineup against a team like Boston. However, he’s the kind of player that can help you get a takedown if he fires for 40. He’s come close a few times.
