New York Giants: LB A.J. Klein (New Orleans Saints)

Back in 2016, the New York Giants got a big year from their defense and just enough from quarterback Eli Manning to forge an 11-5 record and reach the playoffs. But then-head coach Ben McAdoo and the club had that sinking feeling as the club was humbled at Lambeau Field by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, 38-13. And in many ways the franchise hasn’t recovered since.

Late in 2017, McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese were fired for mishandling Manning and opting to bench the two-time Super Bowl MVP. It was a season that would end with only three victories. Steve Spagnuolo would close out the final four games and then it was Pat Shurmur’s turn. He came up with nine wins the past two seasons, meaning new head coach Joe Judge inherits a team with a combined 12-36 record since ’17.

General manager Dave Gettleman certainly has his critics. He hit a home run drafting Saquon Barkley and there’s potential in talented but turnover-prone quarterback Daniel Jones. But one thing the club hasn’t been able to fix as of late is the defense. The one-time GM of the Panthers could turn to a familiar face in linebacker A.J. Klein, who has been a solid performer with Carolina and New Orleans in seven seasons.
