Minnesota Vikings Mount Rushmore: WR Cris Carter

His career began in Philadelphia after he was a fourth-round draft choice in the 1987 NFL Supplemental Draft. Wide receiver Cris Carter spent three seasons in the City of Brotherly Love and then was released by the team. He found a home in the Twin Cities and went on to display the talent that would eventually earn him a bust in Canton, Ohio.

His career numbers speak volumes. The former Buckeye ranks sixth in NFL history with 1,101 receptions, 13th in receiving yards (13,899) while only fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice (197), Randy Moss (156) and Terrell Owens (153) have more TD grabs than Carter (130). He is the Minnesota Vikings’ all-time leader in catches (1,004), receiving yards (12,383) and both touchdown catches and total TDs (110).

You could make a strong case that no one had better footwork that the star receiver, who made keeping two feet in bounds an art form. Carter would play on a pair of Minnesota squads that reached the NFC Championship Game in both 1998 and 2000. And the former was one of the highest-scoring teams in NFL history. There would be no Super Bowl appearance for the 16-year veteran, who ended his career with the Miami Dolphins.
