11. Captain Marvel

The Kree Starforce member formerly known as Vers was a top-notch United States Air Force pilot before gaining game-changing powers from an exploding hyperdrive engine made from the Tesseract. The Kree-human hybrid hasn’t seen much action in the MCU, but the few battles she has endured involve her either taking out a fleet of Kree ships on her own or one Thanos-sized mothership without breaking a sweat. She impressively outdoes the Avengers who only police the planet Earth, while her jurisdiction entails the whole universe.

Many believe that Steve Rogers was the first Avenger and first person in the exclusive superhero crew to reach the rank of Captain. They would all be very wrong on both fronts. The Avengers Initiative created by Nick Fury happened because of Carol and her efforts to aid the Skrulls to safety while also saving the Earth form Ronan the Accuser well before the Guardians take him out.

If it wasn’t for Captain Marvel’s heroic efforts in the ’90s, there might not have been a team in place to stop Loki, Ultron, or the Mad Titan Thanos. The superheroine set the bar for what it means to be one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and her MCU legacy is just getting started. Now that one captain has stepped down, a changing of the guard has begun, and it’s hard to imagine a future where Captain Marvel isn’t the one calling the Avengers to assemble next time around.
