Kansas City Chiefs: Len Dawson (1962-1975)

This is going to be Patrick Mahomes in about five years, but if we were to name the Kansas City Chiefs’ best quarterback ever right now it would still be Len Dawson. Given little chance to succeed by Pittsburgh and Cleveland in the NFL, Dawson thrived in the AFL with the Chiefs, leading the AFL in completion percentage seven times, passer rating six times, and touchdown passes in four seasons.

Dawson helped the Chiefs reach two of the first four Super Bowls, including Kansas City’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

Las Vegas Raiders: Ken Stabler (1968-1979)

It took a while for Ken Stabler to reach the Hall of Fame, but the Snake is definitely the best quarterback in Raiders’ history. Stabler was the starter in Oakland for a decade, winning Super Bowl XI and taking home the NFL’s MVP award in 1974.

A member of the NFL’s All-Decade team in the 1970s, Stabler edges out Jim Plunkett for the honor.

Los Angeles Chargers: Dan Fouts (1973-1987)

Philip Rivers may be the most recent star quarterback to play for the Chargers, but he didn’t come close to having the impact that Dan Fouts did.

The Chargers saw Fouts become the perfect passer to run Don Coryell’s deep passing game, helping set the stage for what the NFL has become today. Fouts became the first quarterback to ever pass for 4,000 yards in consecutive seasons and led the league in passing yardage four years in a row from 1979-1982.
