Miami football schedule 2020: Predicting every Miami Hurricanes game
By John Buhler
Miami football dominates Florida, struggles in Virginia and North Carolina.
Nov. 7: Florida State Seminoles
Coming of a tough, playoff-killing loss to Virginia, Miami will be fired up to right a wrong against their biggest ACC rival in the Florida State Seminoles. However, Mike Norvell will have his team ready to go in this one. Though Florida State outplays Miami throughout much of the contest, late fourth-quarter heroics by D’Eriq King ultimately propel the Canes to victory. Miami, 31-28.
Nov. 14: at Virginia Tech Hokies (Blacksburg, VA)
Of any game on the schedule for Miami that felt like a loss to start the year, the road date in Blacksburg vs. the Virginia Tech Hokies would be that game. Despite holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over North Carolina, Miami ends up losing the ACC Coastal crown in Lane Stadium to Justin Fuente’s team. It’ll be close, but no cigar for the Canes. Virginia Tech, 28-24.
Nov. 21: at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (Atlanta, GA)
Despite falling to 7-3 on the season, Miami still has a shot at a 10-win season if the Canes can just win out. They will venture to The Flats to face the Ramblin’ Wreck of Georgia Tech at Historic Mark Richt Field at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Geoff Collins will eventually get this thing right in Atlanta, but the Jackets aren’t a bowl-eligible team again in 2020. Miami, 41-23.
Nov. 28: Duke Blue Devils
With 10 wins still in sight, Miami has a chance to end its ACC season on a good note. They still have to play a divisional foe at home in David Cutcliffe’s Duke Blue Devils. Despite a solid start to the season, Duke needs this one to achieve bowl eligibility. With superior talent and it being a home game for the seniors, Miami wins this one going away. Miami, 34-17.
Belk Bowl? vs. Auburn Tigers (Charlotte, NC)
At 9-3 (5-3), a ranked Miami team will face another ranked team in the 8-4 Auburn Tigers in their holiday season bowl up in Charlotte. Though we don’t know who will be sponsoring the game at Bank of America Stadium, Bo Nix will have one of his better games of the season, as he outplays D’Eriq King in his final college game. Auburn, 31-18.
Though it didn’t live up to lofty expectations, Miami football had a great season. While they just miss out on a top-25 ranking, they showed enough in 2020 to say they can contend for an ACC Coastal title in 2021. Manny Diaz will have to get better at clock management and have his team play with better composure on the road, but this is the year needed to get Miami where it’s going.
Prediction: 9-4 (5-3), 3rd Place Finish in ACC Coastal
