Miami football: 5 most underrated players in Miami Hurricanes history
By Nick Villano
Ranking the five most underrated Miami football players.
For years, Miami football was one of the most feared names in college football. How many look at teams like Alabama and Ohio State now was how Miami was to start off this Millenium. “The U” is still one of the most iconic teams in the sport, and that meant those teams were usually riddled with talent.
When a team has nine Pro Football Hall of Famers, more than Florida State and Florida combined, it’s going to continue to get headlines. A history that includes Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Michael Irvin, and a long list of other greats. It’s hard to make headway into the lexicon of coverage when looking at the best players in the history of this franchise.
It seems like forever ago that the Hurricanes won double-digit games three seasons in a row. Since they moved to the ACC, Miami has had one double-digit win season. They moved to the ACC in 2004. They’ve been mostly a disappointment since then. Miami moving out of the Big East was one of the cornerstones of the conference realignment and started the end of the Big East in general. Despite that long run of mediocrity, the Hurricanes will always be considered a team worth watching. The history speaks for itself.
So, it was necessary to give some love to players who deserved it. Some of these players were National Champions, All Americans, superstars, but today they aren’t considered when people start naming off the best of the best to ever wear the orange and green “U” on their helmet. Now, we recognize them for building a legacy that started in college.
Miami football has produced several NFL stars throughout the years, but these five Miami Hurricanes are really underrated and deserve more love.
