3. Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears

In 2018, the Chicago Bears rode a strong defense and a dynamic offense to a 12-4 record and division title. They ultimately lost in the Wild Card round on a missed field goal late, but hope was high in the windy city.

Well, most of that hope was lost after the 2019 campaign. The Bears went 8-8, and Mitchell Trubisky was dreadful following his Pro Bowl season the year before.

Trubisky suffered a massive loss in stock. He threw for 3,223 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2018 when the Bears scored 421 points. Then, last year, the team only scratched across 280 points and Trubisky had 3,138 yards with 17 touchdowns throws and 10 interceptions.

This offseason, the team faced a large decision. They needed to decide if they wanted to pick up the fifth-year option in Trubisky’s contract, and they chose not to do so. Meaning, he has a rather substantial season to ready for as he will be playing for a potential new deal.

Declining the option after the year Trubisky had must have been an easy decision. If they had picked it up, he would have made far more money than he is currently worth.

If you needed any further indication about how confident the Bears are in Trubisky, just look at the Nick Foles trade they completed. Now, Trubisky will have to beat Foles out for the starting job.

Like Mariota and Jameis Winston had the chance to do with their respected clubs last year, Trubisky will have to fight for the opportunity to keep his starting duties. If not, it will be time to move on.

2020 is very much a career-deciding season for Trubisky. Can he bounce back and lead the Bears back to the playoffs?
