Rays confront Yankees and benches clear in heated postgame exchange (Video)

After Aroldis Chapman threw a fastball up and in to Michael Brosseau, the Rays and Yankees had a heated exchange while Frank Sinatra played in the background

Kevin Cash and the Rays had a lot to say after a 5-3 loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night, in part due to the message sent by Aaron Boone and Aroldis Chapman.

While the flamethrower is often erratic with his signature pitch, Cash deemed that a heater at the head of Brosseau had some serious intent, and the two teams met down the third-base line postgame. No punches were thrown, but words were exchanged in a rivalry where those sorts of motives are known to carry over from one series to the next.

Thankfully neither team succumbed to violence, but that could easily change

These two teams meet again on Wednesday night, and the statement made by Cash postgame to the media won’t sit well in the Yankees locker room.

Cash’s comments come across as accusatory, and they got the attention of Boone, who called them downright dangerous. A rivalry has been budding between these two teams for the last few seasons, and with the Boston Red Sox squarely out of the picture in 2020, things have reached a pinnacle this season.

The franchises are polar opposites in how they operate, with the Yankees (at least most the time) willing to spend big in the free agent market while the Rays focus more on player development and feature an impactful farm system. While that along isn’t reason for animosity, a competitive AL East race should do the trick.
