Mississippi State sums up 2020 with the worst punt of all time (Video)
By John Buhler
There are terrible punts, and there is whatever the Mississippi State football team gave us.
2020 was not a good year for most of us, especially the Mississippi State football team.
In the sub-.500 Bulldogs’ bowl game vs. the No. 24 Tulsa Golden Hurricane, Mississippi State punter Tucker Day hit a bunch of turf on his punt attempt. The ball went right into the hands of Tulsa linebacker Trevor Reh’s hands for a one-yard loss. In short, it was a one-yard punt for Mississippi State. The whole play was so stupid and we cannot believe it even happened.
It this play did not define 2020, what will, honestly?
Mississippi State would go on to beat Tulsa 28-26 in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl at Amon G. Carter in Fort Worth, Texas. While we thought the worst punt of the season would end up being the signature moment of this game, it ended up being out-shone by a game-ending brawl that got really ugly, really fast after the on-field, post-game handshake. Just end this year already.
There is nothing quite like ringing in the new year with a bunch of team football suspensions.
