3 players Pittsburgh Steelers can sign with Bud Dupree’s money
1. Haason Reddick
Dupree was a good edge-rusher for the Steelers, but he was never anything close to dominant from the edge. Gambling on a player like Reddick who has that sort of upside could pay off handsomely for Pittsburgh in free agency.
Reddick’s first several seasons in Arizona profiled him as a potential first round bust, but his production exploded in 2020. The Cardinals’ coaching staff simplified his role and he responded with a 13 sack campaign. He might struggle to replicate that feat in 2021, but another double-digit sack season isn’t out of the question.
The former Temple star also profiles as a perfect fit to take Dupree’s spot along the edge of Tomlin’s defense. He’s never going to provide a team much as a run defender, but his elite speed from the perimeter makes him a nightmare for opposing tackles. Pittsburgh has the sort of defense to let Reddick do what he does best the vast majority of the time.
The sheer quantity of established edge rushers in this year’s free agent class gives the Steelers a chance to sign Reddick to a relatively modest deal if they move quickly. Landing him should be a priority for Pittsburgh’s front office.
