Michigan basketball head coach Juwan Howard was all about his son Jace Howard contributing to the Wolverines’ Sweet 16 victory over Florida State.

When you’re the head coach of a team heading to the Elite Eight, you’ve got every reason to be excited.

When your son is part of that team and scores a basket, being even more pumped is part of the deal.

Michigan basketball head coach Juwan Howard was definitely feeling it when his son Jace got in the game against Florida State and drew an and-1.

Even better than Howard’s emphatic fist pump was the reaction of the rest of the Wolverines team. They were stoked for Jace.

Jace Howard is looking to follow in Juwan Howard’s footsteps

Howard is a 6-foot-8 small forward who committed to his father’s squad as a three-star prospect, per the 247Sports composite. The opportunity to play for his dad while also following in his footsteps as a Wolverine was too great.

The elder Howard was a star for Michigan from 1991-1994. He averaged 15.3 points per game in his career while helping the Wolverines go to two national title games and an Elite Eight. Now he’s a head coach with an eye on securing the championship he never managed as a player.

If Jace wants to have the same kind of impact, he’ll have to wait. He has had limited minutes with an average of 0.9 points per game as a freshman. His role has been more to support the team on their NCAA Tournament run than to put up baskets. That he got the chance to do so on Sunday was a plus.

Whatever Jace is contributing, dad will undoubtedly be proud enough for a few more fist pumps over the next few years.
