Making Aaron Rodgers want a divorce from Packers isn’t Green Bay’s only mistake this offseason

The Packers have the most drama in the NFL. Here are three offseason mistakes that led to serious discord for everyone in Green Bay.

Stories centering on Aaron Rodgers’ beef with the Packers’ front office continue to dominate the NFL landscape. The odds strongly favor the superstar quarterback suiting up for Green Bay when Week 1 rolls around, but serious damage has been done.

It’s fair to say Rodgers is trying to wield immense power over the franchise, but his dissatisfaction with the team’s personnel moves is justified. The front office squandered several high-profile chances to improve their roster during the offseason. The following three mistakes give Rodgers plenty of ammunition in his feud with Green Bay’s higher-ups.

3. Giving Aaron Jones a $48 million deal

Jones is a terrific running back, but the Packers shouldn’t have overpaid to keep him in free agency. It’s highly unlikely Jones would have been able to get $48 million over four years from any other team on the open market.

The deal certainly was not an efficient use of resources for the Packers. They could have spent the money on more valuable free agents. It likely would have been more than enough to keep All-Pro center Corey Linsley in the fold. Instead, the Packers committed big money to one of the least valuable positions in the modern NFL. Jones will continue to put up big numbers inside the comfy confines of Green Bay’s offense, but re-signing him was a poor use of resources by the Packers’ front office.
