Mets: Luis Rojas fuming over awful call at first base in Subway Series (Video)
The New York Mets were robbed of a base hit on Sunday going up against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
New York Mets skipper Luis Rojas is not a happy man on Sunday and no one can blame him for that. In the first game of a double-header going up against the New York Yankees, Brandon Nimmo tried sprinting his way to first for an infield knock.
Instead, Luke Voit was barely able to beat him to the base to record an out. However, if you take a look at the replay, Nimmo clearly beat Voit. He should have been called safe. The play was reviewed and Nimmo was still out. How in the world?
Brandon Nimmo was called out thanks to a terrible call by the umps in the Yankees-Mets showdown
As you can see in the clip above, Nimmo was safe. He beat Voit, straight up. The fact that this play was reviewed and not overturned is a joke. What’s the point of replay if the umps are still going to mess things up?
Rojas was surely upset about the call. He let the men in blue know just how angry he was and rightfully so. This kind of a mistake is inexcusable. With the Yankees holding an early lead too, this was the kind of play that could have helped the Mets get back into things. Instead, they have a base runner taken off the field.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen umpires blow it on calls. What’s concerning, though, is that things like this happen even after a video review. Should this happen again in the near future, Rojas might have to reach out to Rob Manfred’s office and really voice his displeasure. The umps have to be better than this.
