Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Jon Gray. 108. RHP. Colorado Rockies. 2. player

Jon Gray would be a welcomed addition to a starting rotation in need of depth

As with the Rangers, the Colorado Rockies are sellers out west. While the Mets could be interested in adding shortstop Trevor Story, New York already has Francisco Lindor. Yes, he is dealing with an injury, but Story would have to play elsewhere on the New York diamond if he were dealt to the Mets in the final months of his expiring contract. There is another Rocky, though.

The player who could really help out the Mets in their postseason push is right-handed starter, Jon Gray. He once was the Rockies’ prized prospect, but he too is playing on an expiring deal. On the year, Gray is 6-6 in 18 starts with a 3.67 ERA and a 1.224 WHIP with 91 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched. Keep in mind that he pitches half of his games at spacious Coors Field in Denver as well.

Given that Citi Field typically favors the pitcher, this could be a boost to Gray’s already impressive stuff coming off the mound. While he could be a half-season rental like Kennedy almost certainly would be coming over from Texas, Gray may enjoy pitching under the bright lights in Queens and could re-up with the Mets in his pending free agency. Either way, he greatly improves the rotation.

If New York is serious about winning the division, the Mets need to add a starter like Gray soon.
