The Philadelphia Eagles have gone with Jalen Hurts as their starter. If he struggles or gets injured, backup quarterback Joe Flacco would replace him.
Head coach Nick Sirianni made a commitment to Jalen Hurts this year, but every team has to have a backup plan.
For Philadelphia, QB2 is someone with a Super Bowl ring.
Joe Flacco is the Eagles backup quarterback
The Eagles brought in Joe Flacco on a one-year contract in March to shore up their quarterback room. He’s a veteran figure who should have a positive influence on Hurts as he grows in the early stages of his career.
At the same time, Flacco could be a tempting option to replace Hurts if things go downhill for the young passer.
Philadelphia’s Week 3 Monday Night Football appearance against the Cowboys was one of those moments that had fans wondering if the backup should come in. Hurts had a rough night, throwing an interception on the first drive and later throwing a pick six to give Dallas a commanding lead.
Hurts was voted a captain by his teammates, so it’ll take more than a poor performance on the road to bench him, but Flacco is waiting in the wings.
