After Giancarlo Stanton hit his third home run of the weekend on Sunday en route to a 6-3 New York Yankees win over the Boston Red Sox, he injured Gleyber Torres.
Giancarlo Stanton had an absolutely dominating performance at the plate over the weekend as the New York Yankees swept the Boston Red Sox in a battle for the AL Wild Card. He hit three home runs and 10 RBIs and was named AL Player of the Week, but he also hit Gleybor Torres’ head.
After launching a 448-foot bomb, Stanton was a bit too excited and whacked Torres’ helmet after he touched home plate. Giancarlo just about used the same force that he did in hitting the home run to smack Torres.

Poor Torres, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The reason Gleyber Torres paused his at bat to meet with trainers is because he was shaken up after Giancarlo Stanton hit him in the head while celebrating his home run https://t.co/bkJQvzVzaF

During Gleyber’s at-bat, he was caught watching a strike go by and then began to feel ‘woozy.’ New York’s trainers immediately took the field to tend to Torres. He was able to finish his at-bat with a line drive that was caught for the Yankees’ second out, so at least he was able to see the ball after seeing stars.
Stanton’s performance this weekend was otherworldly, but he was brought back to Earth after Torres had to get his head checked out.

"I was hyped ... I might have to ease up a little bit."
If Giancarlo hits more bombs against the Toronto Blue Jays or Tampa Bay Rays, Gleyber should run and duck for cover. Careful, Stanton, you don’t want to lose your shortstop in the middle of a crucial playoff push.
It’s a good thing that the Yankees had a day off on Monday.
