JT Daniels could return to action for the Georgia football team vs. Florida on Saturday.

JT Daniels has not played in a month for the Georgia football team.

Not since the Dawgs eviscerated the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville has the former five-star quarterback played a down for Georgia. Daniels has been dealing with a lat injury that has kept him sidelined for the last three games. All the while, his backup Stetson Bennett has played phenomenally, beating three top-25 SEC teams in a row in Arkansas, Auburn and Kentucky.

While it would only serve head coach Kirby Smart to keep this one as close to the vest as possible, what are the chances Daniels is healthy enough to get the start vs. Florida over Bennett?

JT Daniels injury update: Will Georgia football star get the start vs. Florida?

Here is what Smart had to say about his two quarterbacks ahead of Saturday’s big game.

“It’s going to be based on practice,” said Smart to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. “No decision has been made whatsoever.”

As far as Georgia playing both quarterbacks, Smart offered, “It’s going to depend on how they practice and what they do. Is it likely that we will see both of them? I don’t know that. I haven’t seen practice today. I’d like to see practice today to know a little bit better to know, OK, where’s he at.”

And when it comes to potentially rotating quarterbacks vs. the Gators, Smart said “I’ll say it again, I’m really OK with whoever the best guy that gives us the best chance to win is.”

Given the rivalry between the Gators and the Dawgs, Smart should tell no one outside of that quarterback room who gets the start on Saturday. Georgia is 7-0 and the No. 1 team in the country. With a win over arch rival Florida in Jacksonville, the Dawgs will have essentially clinched their fourth SEC East division title in five years. Florida is feisty, but a very beatable team for UGA.

For as great as Bennett has played, if Daniels is healthy enough to go out there, he should get the start. This is a great luxury for Georgia to have. The Dawgs have two quarterbacks capable of beating high-quality conference foes. However, Daniels should have a short leash. If he struggles and the Dawgs aren’t putting away Florida, it might be time to see if The Mailman can deliver.

Daniels should get the start on Saturday only if he is fully healthy. If not, then it should be Bennett.
