The Florida Gators fired head coach Dan Mullen on Sunday and fans across the country are losing their minds on Twitter.

Things have just gone from bad to worse for the Florida Gators this season. Following the loss on Saturday to the Missouri Tigers, it felt like a change was coming sooner than later. Well, that happened on Sunday afternoon, with Florida firing head coach Dan Mullen.

The Gators entered the season with some high expectations, but they fell to 5-6 on the year after the overtime defeat to the Tigers. With the team playing so poorly, Mullen’s firing really doesn’t come as a surprise.

Dan Mullen fired has Twitter exploding

While Mullen getting canned isn’t shocking, that doesn’t mean that people across the country haven’t raced to social media to talk about it. Indeed, as soon as insider Matt Zenitz broke the news, Twitter has taken off with people firing off posts.

Again, Florida had plenty of promise and potential this season, but things have just gone the opposite of how things folks thought they would. After beating Vanderbilt 42-0 on Oct. 9, Florida has gone 1-4 since, beating Samford last weekend, but losing to Missouri, LSU, Georgia and South Carolina.

With Mullen’s seat getting hotter and hotter, he needed a convincing win over Missouri on Saturday to help take some pressure off. Instead, Florida couldn’t get the job done and now Mullen is out of a job.

Who is Greg Knox?

Mullen is out, so running backs coach and special teams coordinator Greg Knox will take over as the interim head coach. Florida takes on Florida State to close out the season next weekend, with the team needing a win for bowl eligibility.
