5 NBA legends you forgot played for the Boston Celtics
By Nick Villano
2. Dominique Wilkins — 1994-95
Before the 1994-95 season, Dominique Wilkins was trying to find what the final few years of his career were going to look like. He had a dominant run in Atlanta with the Hawks, but they made one of the weirdest trades in NBA history. He was sent to the Los Angeles Clippers despite being the Hawks leading scorer on a team that had the best record in the conference.
He left the Clippers and signed with the Celtics in the offseason. That stint was so forgettable, most people only remember his time on the Dream Team Part II during that season. Wilkins was the Celtics leading scorer. However, he would play in Greece in the season after his time with the Celtics.
It was a strange era for what was a great career for Wilkins. He just never clicked with a Celtics team that was rebuilding. It was pretty strange the Celtics even went to bring an aging Wilkins into the fold. He was still a great scorer and he could be productive, but what were the Celtics trying to be at this time? They were never really anything to go home about after Larry Bird retired.
Wilkins’ legacy will always be one of the best scorers the game has ever seen. His short time with the Celtics just never really turned into much. He was still very good. The team wasn’t, though.
