Clemson defeated Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl by a touchdown, recovering a Brock Purdy fumble to end the Cyclones senior’s career.

Purdy’s given his all to the Iowa State program, helping Matt Campbell put Ames, Iowa on the map in terms of college football. In one of the weirdest games of the college bowl slate thus far, Purdy had two of the more memorable turnovers of the season.

First, Purdy threw arguably the worst interception of the year when he batted his own pass in the air, allowing Clemson to pick it off and return it for a touchdown. Notable — Clemson won by seven points.

Lastly, to end the affair entirely, Purdy ran for a first down and later fumbled. He recovered his own fumble back behind the first-down line. There is no forward progress when that occurs. Clemson ball. Game over.

Cheez-It Bowl: Brock Purdy’s career ends on a bad note

A tough end to a great career for Purdy marks the end of a memorable season for Dabo Swinney.

Despite entering the year with high expectations, the Tigers got off to a tough start, but eventually rebounded for a 10-win season. This was the first time Clemson didn’t win the ACC since 2014.

This offseason didn’t get off to an ideal start, either, with Clemson losing both assistant coaches in defensive coordinator Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Tony Elliott. Venables now coaches Oklahoma, while Elliott is at Virginia.

But Dabo is Dabo, and he pulled more magic out of his hat.
