3. San Francisco 49ers

With the 49ers, everyone is waiting to see what the team ends up doing with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. With Garoppolo behind center, the team somehow was able to make it to the NFC Championship Game and they nearly stunned the Rams.

However, Garoppolo struggled in that game and LA not only moved on, but they won the Super Bowl too. If San Francisco cuts Garoppolo, that would open up $25.5 million in cap space for the team.

This is important because then it would open the door for the team to sign a player of Mathieu’s caliber in free agency. Like the other teams mentioned on his list, San Francisco’s secondary wasn’t strong last year.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan knows that this area needs to improve. That’s why if the money frees up to sign Mathieu, San Francisco shouldn’t think twice about trying to get him to the Bay Area.
