Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol live round-by-round updates
Undisputed super middleweight boxing champion Canelo Alvarez moves up to light heavyweight to challenge Dmitry Bivol. Follow along for live updates.
It’s Saturday, May 7, and Canelo Alvarez is set to challenge Dmitry Bivol for Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight title in a DAZN pay-per-view event.
Canelo (57-1-2, 39 KOs) is boxing’s biggest draw. The 31-year-old from Mexico is the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion.
He beefed up to 174.4 pounds for a shot at Bivol, but this isn’t new territory for Alvarez. He stopped Sergey Kovalev in round 11 in 2019 to win the WBO light heavyweight title.
Since that time, Alvarez vacated the WBO belt and cleared out the super middleweight division to win all four major titles. As he told FanSided during fight week, he might try to become undisputed in two different weight classes.
That’s a challenging task, and Bivol’s not going to make it easy on Alvarez.
Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) lacks name recognition, but the 31-year-old fighter originally from Kyrgyzstan is undefeated and a talented boxer. The amateur world champion has held his WBA title for years, but his professional experience considerably lags behind Alvarez’s.
Bivol’s two best wins are against Joe Smith Jr. and Jean Pascal. Smith is a current world champion, and Pascal was a former champ, but Alvarez makes beating up great boxers routine.
Can Bivol rise to the occasion, or will Alvarez turn in another dominant performance? We’re close to finding out.
Alvarez vs. Bivol goes down at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. You can watch on DAZN pay-per-view starting at 8 p.m. ET.
