2) Red Sox trade candidate to avoid: Jesus Aguilar

The Red Sox have a major hole at first base with the way Bobby Dalbec has hit. Franchy Cordero has helped the position from the left side but the position still remains a weakness for Boston. Miami Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar should be available in trades. The Red Sox shouldn’t get involved in those talks.

Aguilar has had an interesting big league career. He had some monster seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers with the 2018 campaign standing out most. He blasted 35 home runs and drove in 108. Nothing else he has done in the big leagues comes close. This year has been somewhat of a slow start for him. Trading for him might just bring Boston more of the same issues they already have at the position.

Boston’s best answer at first base might be a guy who can also play the corner outfield positions. If the price for someone like that is too high, just get whoever the next J.D. Martinez might be—someone bound to be a permanent DH.

The Red Sox shouldn’t need a huge bat at first base. They get enough from other players. A slight improvement is all they should be looking to add. Aguilar is not the answer.
