Is the new Adam Sandler, Netflix movie, Hustle, based on a true story?

You’ve probably just finished watching the new Netflix movie Hustle and are wondering if it’s based on a real person. Otherwise, how’d you find yourself here, right? Well, you aren’t alone. It’s an honest question, and a good one too.

The plot of the movie, according to IMDB says “A washed-up basketball scout discovers a phenomenal street ball player while in Spain and sees the prospect as his opportunity to get back into the NBA.”

That “washed up” scout is Stanley Sugerman (Sandler) and the NBA prospect is Bob Cruz (Juancho Hernangómez). The movie isn’t based on a real duo, but it’s definitely based in reality. The story may not be about an actual agent/player but there are relationships like theirs and many can probably relate to the process of getting into a high-level sport.
