LIV Golf rumors: Collin Morikawa denies he’ll follow Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka became the latest golfer to shift his allegiance to LIV Golf. But Collin Morikawa remains staunch in his commitment to the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf just poached another one of the PGA Tour‘s best golfers. Brooks Koepka will join the upstart headed by its CEO Greg Norman. But Collin Morikawa took to Twitter this morning to defuse any rumors that he might be the next to go.

Morikawa stated in his tweet that the media loves to create drama and he’s committed to staying on the PGA Tour. Golf Monthly had recently written that Morikawa would be one of four golfers headed to LIV Golf.

To give credit to Jeff Kimber of Golf Monthly, he did get one of the names right. Brooks Koepka has indeed ditched the PGA Tour in favor of the LIV Golf Invitational Series. The other names listed were Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele.

Koepka is one of the most established names to join the newest game in town. Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, and Koepka’s rival Bryson DeChambeau have all joined LIV Golf over the last few weeks.

Collin Morikawa was the 36-hole leader at last week’s US Open. Morikawa faltered on Saturday, however, shooting a 77 and dropping him well off the pace as Sunday rolled around.

Morikawa posted a final round of 66, but that was only good enough for fifth place. Morikawa finished the US Open in a tie with Rory McIlroy.

For now, however, don’t add Collin Morikawa’s name to the list. Morikawa is the No. 4-ranked golfer in the world according to the Official World Golf Rankings, so losing the 25-year-old to their new rival would be a huge blow to the PGA Tour.

The LIV Golf’s next event will be state-side at Pumpkin Ridge in Oregon. It’s yet to be determined if those players who’ve defected will be eligible for next month’s Open Championship overseas at historic St. Andrew’s Golf and Country Club.
