Missing the playoffs in back-to-back years could be the end for Kevin Stefanski

While pointing the finger at Jadeveon Clowney for not having as many sacks as Myles Garrett or saying Andrew Berry could not build a roster capable of making it into the playoffs with any regularity is just plain foolish, these are the Browns were are talking about! So if Cleveland has another down season under head coach Kevin Stefanski, do not be shocked if he is out the door.

It goes without saying, it is far easier to fire the head coach than to fire the entire team. Although one could argue Berry and Stefanski are tied at the hip in Cleveland, Berry would be more likely to keep his job over Stefanski because he has better held up his end of the bargain. Berry is paid millions to assemble a championship-caliber roster, while Stefanski is being paid to win games.

Not to say it has to be playoffs or bust for dysfunctional Cleveland, but a 7-10 season is more likely to end with Stefanski’s termination than a fourth season at the helm. As long as the Browns remain competitive, regardless of who starts games at quarterback for them, Stefanski should be safe. Then again, roughly one-quarter of the league’s head coaches get whacked every offseason.

There are no true scapegoats to be had in Cleveland, but owner Jimmy Haslam will surely find one.
