Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day will take success in any way, but he has high expectations for the Buckeyes Football Program.

Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes finished 11-2 and beat the Utah Utes to win the Rose Bowl — a good season, but not by Ryan Day’s standards.

Winning the Rose Bowl is certainly a great accomplishment, and Day understands that and appreciates it, but the Buckeyes, according to Day, have higher standards for themselves.

Wow. That says a lot. It’s good for a team like the Buckeyes to have a championship-or-bust mindset, given the history of their program and the success that has followed them. At the same time, it’s also important to understand that going 11-2 and winning the Rose Bowl is still a significant accomplishment, given the game’s magnitude.

Ryan Day is not short in building lofty expectations for the Ohio State Buckeyes

In fairness to Ryan Day, the Ohio State program is loaded with talent worthy of competing for the game’s biggest prize on its grandest stage. A strong receiving core led by Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Julian Fleming, along with arguably college football’s top running back in TreVeyon Henderson, is more than enough to allow CJ Stroud to flourish offensively.

Moreover, an improved Buckeyes defense will be worth watching this year. New defensive coordinator Jim Knowles replaces Kerry Coombs and will bring a more aggressive approach to the Scarlet and Grey, which should give the fans in Columbus a reason to get even louder when that side of the team is on the field.

Ryan Day made it clear. The Rose Bowl is excellent, but that should not be the standard. It’s championship or bust in the Horseshoe. THE expectation is clear for THE Ohio State Buckeyes. Let’s see how it pans out on the field this year and if Day’s words can be backed up by his players.
