Serena Williams, the GOATness herself, told us that she has nothing left to prove.

She’s right. There is nothing to be done in tennis that Serena hasn’t. It’s like that for a few select athletes, few of whom are still in the game.

One of them is Tom Brady, who, at 45 years old, still believes he has something to prove.

That’s the chip that has fueled Brady all these years, and in that way, these two GOATs have grazed in the same pasture. Serena reminded us that she’s had a “target on her back” all these years, and in a fair amount of NFL circles, so does Brady.

He’s won seven Super Bowls, been to enough conference championships to fill a stadium with banners, and is here in Year 23 at age 45. The man shouting through his facemask during Sunday Night Football is the same one who eagerly head-butted his teammates during pre-Super Bowl XXXVI jitters.

How does Brady keep that same energy? We could chalk it up to his TB12 diet and his emphasis on hydration, but really, it’s a relentlessness pursuit of improvement; a constant cycle of reinvention.

Also, he has a streak of never losing to the Cowboys, so there was probably that, too.

Serena and Tom have nothing left to prove, but it’s been a joy watching them give it their all in 2022 so far.
