Seahawks weaponize “Let’s Ride” to send Russell Wilson to another dimension

The Seattle Seahawks trolled quarterback Russell Wilson into oblivion by turning his “Let’s Ride” catchphrase against him.

Entering the 2022 season, no one gave the Seattle Seahawks a fighting chance against the Denver Broncos, who were led by their former quarterback Russell Wilson. With Wilson on the roster, Denver developed sky-high expectations, which include returning to the playoffs for the first time since they won Super Bowl 50.

But on the season premiere of Monday Night Football, the Seahawks defeated the Broncos 17-16, after head coach Nathaniel Hackett opted against Wilson going for it on fourth-and-five in favor of a 64-yard field goal attempt by Brandon McManus, which was no good.

Afterward their upset win, the Seahawks have been on fire on social media. One thing they have done is troll their former quarterback by using his “let’s ride” catchphrase against him.

The social media team may have turned the catchphrase on its head, but so did the players on the roster. Most notably was defensive lineman Shelby Harris, who arrived in Seattle via the Wilson trade. While speaking with NFL Network’s James Palmer post-game, Harris said “All I have to say is let’s ride.”

Former Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu and Take 12 podcast co-host Brett Davern even went as far to parody Wilson’s catchphrase with “Let’s Riiide” t-shirts.

It was not just the team that was trolling Wilson. One Twitter user superimposed Wilson saying “Bronco’s Country, let’s ride” over McManus’s 64-yard field goal attempt falling wide left.

In his first start with the Broncos, Wilson completed 29-of-42 pass attempts for 340 yards and one touchdown. Meanwhile, Geno Smith threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns while completing 23-of-28 of his throws.

Seattle is “riding” high after their huge victory. Now, they look to improve their record to 2-0 with a win over the rival San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
