David Montgomery left Sunday’s game with an ankle/knee injury. As a result, Khalil Hebert saw an increased workload, and he had a breakout performance rushing for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Montgomery missed four games last season, and Herbert averaged 13.5 fantasy points per game during that span. In Montgomery’s absence, Hebert consistently saw RB1 volume. Let’s take a quick look at his game log during that period.

Week 5 at LV- 18 carries, 75 yards

Week 6 vs. GB- 19 carries, 97 yards, one touchdown; two receptions, 15 yards

Week 7 at TB- 18 carries, 100 yards; five receptions, 33 yards

Week 8 vs. SF- 23 carries, 72 yards; two receptions, negative four yards

According to Jason Lieser of The Chicago Sun-Times, Montgomery will be “day-to-day” with a “lower leg injury”.

Herbert is a great addition this week. Even if Montgomery does play, he is not guaranteed to see his full workload coming off an injury, and Herbert’s performance should inspire further confidence from Chicago’s coaching staff.
