Pat McAfee and friends were the only ones who could’ve saved the Colts
By John Buhler
The only thing that could’ve saved the Indianapolis Colts this season is Pat McAfee and the boys.
With Frank Reich out after a 3-5-1 start, the Indianapolis Colts have named franchise legend Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach. In doing so, they missed the only opportunity to salvage this season in any more by shirking Pat McAfee and friends.
This is not about winning games, but pure entertainment at this point. Though Indianapolis has a former AFC South head coach on staff in defensive coordinator and former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, McAfee and the boys could’ve changed the game once again. They have conquered YouTube, they have conquered Friday Night Smackdown! and now College GameDay.
How you doing, keep it moving. Here is a glimpse at what a McAfee-led coaching staff would look like.
Pat McAfee and friends leading the Indianapolis Colts would’ve been absolutely amazing
If Jim Irsay were on board with this, then we have to be on board with this new coaching staff as well.
- Head Coach: Pat McAfee
- Offensive Coordinator: Dan Orlovsky
- Defensive Coordinator: Darius Butler
- Special Teams Coordinator: Mitt’s Dad
- Quarterbacks Coach: Matt Hasselbeck
- Offensive Line Coach: A.Q. Shipley
- Linebackers Coach: A.J. Hawk!, A.J. Hawk!
- Special Assistant to the Head Coach: Chuck Pagano
- Running Backs Coach: Boston Conner
- Wide Receivers Coach: Desmond Howard
- Defensive Line Coach: David Pollack
- Defensive Backs Coach: Ty Schmit as Lou Holtz
This is not about the Colts winning any more games, but many of McAfee’s friends are former NFL players and know what it is like to thrive in tough situations, as well as be ABSOLUTE stallions in the best of spots. Time might be of the essence with McAfee’s one-of-a-kind ridiculous schedule, but I’d play for this team. Let’s be real. We all would. McAfee is a one-of-one human being, yinz.
With the Colts moving on from Reich, we have to wonder how much job security general manager Chris Ballard has left at this point. If he were to be ousted before the end of the season too, Irsay could’ve called up former NFL general manager and a friend of the progrum in the good paisan that is Michael Lombardi. Either way, we are in for some major changes in Indianapolis this upcoming offseason.
And while we’re at it, you know who might actually be a serious candidate for the job: Former Colts starting quarterback and Ring of Honor member Jim Harbaugh. The Michigan head coach did play flirt with the Minnesota Vikings before returning to his alma mater, but the starts are actually aligning for this to potentially happen. Would Harbaugh want to leave Ann Arbor for Indianapolis?
The best part of going with McAfee and friends would’ve been most of them already call Indianapolis home. Instead, they are going with an interim with no head coaching experience with nothing being done #ForTheBrand. Missed opportunities.
Saturday may be for the boys, but how will he do on Sundays?
