Derek Carr takes another shot at Raiders by going full-blown Rob Lowe
By John Buhler
Derek Carr goes full-blown Rob Lowe as a big fan of the NFL, and not of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Nobody is a bigger fan of the NFL than Rob Lowe.
Derek Carr may have been drafted by them nine years ago, but his days as the franchise quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders are so over. He made it two more seasons with the Silver and Black than Parks and Recreation did on NBC. Even though Lowe literally changed the game beginning in Season 3, we all got tired of the Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope sappiness really fast.
If Chris Traeger and Tommy Boy’s brother can push DirecTV on you, then Carr can be Team NFL.
Derek Carr and Rob Lowe clearly root for the same team on NFL Sundays
While there are 31 other teams’ gear Carr could wear, he wisely embraced the most generic of them all. Although he could be heading to the NFC South this offseason, Carr is not about to rep the Raiders in Las Vegas anytime soon. He will either be traded or released in the coming weeks. We cannot wait to see what team his older brother David will pick to win the division every year.
In time, we will all look back on what Carr meant to the Raiders fondly. They have been a chaotic mess for the better part of the 21st century. Carr quarterbacked the team to its two most recent playoff appearances, the first since 2002 in 2016 and the second with an interim head coach at the helm in 2021. The Raiders may finally find their way, but Carr was stable amid the nonsense.
Ultimately, Carr has another six years or so of high-quality football left in the tank. He is only in his early 30s. Having already overachieved his draft status, it remains to be seen if he can do more with his new team than what he ever could with the Raiders. Regardless, Carr is one of the biggest names switching teams from the quarterback position. Where he lands will be utterly fascinating.
For the next few weeks, Carr will be Team NFL without a care in the world about his former team.
