Dak Prescott says 2023 is first time he’s felt momentum with Cowboys
The 2023 NFL season is on the horizon. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is looking forward to building off the last two years.
He comes off arguably the worst season of his seven-year NFL career. However, Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Dak Prescott would obviously prefer to focus on the positives when it comes to his team.
After putting up big numbers in 2021 and leading Mike McCarthy’s club to an NFC East title, the two-time Pro Bowler missed five games this past season. Understandably, his touchdown pass production dropped from 37 in the previous season to 23 in 2022.
However, Prescott finished tied with Texans’ second-year signal-caller Davis Mills with 15 interceptions. The Cowboys’ field general was picked off 11 times in his final seven regular-season outings. After throwing for four scores and zero interceptions in the playoff win at Tampa, Prescott threw one TD pass and served up two more interceptions in the divisional round loss at San Francisco.
Cowboys: Dak Prescott feeling new momentum going into 2023 season
For the seven-year veteran, the focus is less on a rough 2022 showing and more about what could lie ahead in 2023.
Yes, the Cowboys have had limited postseason for nearly three decades. The franchise won Super Bowl XXX in 1995 and hasn’t reached the NFC title game since. However, the club has posted double-digit wins for the first time since managing that feat in six consecutive years from 1991-96.
Dallas has reached the playoffs each of the past two seasons, the first time since 2006 and ’07 that Jerry Jones’ team has made back-to-back postseason appearances. That is certainly something to build on.
The Cowboys didn’t make a lot of moves this offseason in terms of adding veterans. The club traded for cornerback Stephon Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The new offensive coordinator is Brian Schottenheimer, but McCarthy will be calling the plays this year.
Looming large in the NFC East is the defending conference champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Birds are certainly challenging enough for the Cowboys and Prescott, whose optimism after a personally rough 2022 is certainly welcomed.
