The fact Neal Brown still has a job at West Virginia is beyond shocking right now

This has nothing to do with Neal Brown, the man, or the coach, but rather the impossible job he is still doing for West Virginia. Brown did a phenomenal job previously at Troy before taking over for Dana Holgorsen in Morgantown. He had three consecutive double-digit-win seasons leading Troy, but since coming aboard over at WVU, he has had one winning season: 6-4 during the COVID year.

With his former athletic director Shane Lyons being ousted in late November, it seemed inevitable that Brown would get the ax himself as well. With Wren Baker parting ways with Seth Littrell at North Texas right before taking over as the Mountaineers athletic director, it felt like only a matter of time. Well, Brown is still here and the Mountaineers are still not doing much of anything either.

So what does Brown have to do to stick around for another season? Win the lottery, basically. WVU not only needs to go bowling, but push for something closer to eight wins. While having the four former Group of Five schools coming aboard could allow for a few easier wins, nothing has been easy for Brown in Morgantown. Eventually, something has got to give, and it might be him.

Brown is on by far and away the hottest seat of any college football head coach in the Power Five.
