We just passed along the news that free agent cornerback Sean Smith was no longer considering the Philadelphia Eagles, but there are at least three teams that are still fighting for his services. Smith entered the free agent market as a hot commodity, however, the cornerback market was slow to develop and that has resulted in a drop in Smith’s asking price.

With Smith now available at a cheaper price due to the early spending of free agency being behind us, the door is now open for a potential return to the Miami Dolphins.

Per Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post:

If Smith returned to the Dolphins, it would be a great win for the team who was one of the early spenders in free agency.

When the Dolphins opened the check book for Mike Wallace and Dannell Ellerbe, many believed Smith could be out the door. Now there are talks that not only Smith, but offensive tackle Jake Long could also return to South Beach.

That would be best case scenario for Miami and could make them a clear winner of free agency.
