On Wednesday night, many witnessed what is being called one of, if not the, best Stanley Cup Finals opening games in the history of the NHL.

The Boston Bruins built up a two goal third period lead before seeing the Chicago Blackhawks come back to tie it late. Chicago eventually ended up winning the game in triple-overtime on a deflection by Andrew Shaw’s knee past Tuuka Rask to take a 1-0 series lead.

Now, the teams return to the ice tonight for game two of the Finals with Chicago looking to take a 2-0 lead on home ice while the Bruins are hoping to even the series before heading home to Beantown.

Boston will likely be without forward Nathan Horton who reaggravated a reported chronic shoulder injury in the first overtime of game one which means that Tyler Seguin will have to step up if the Bruins hope to get the series to one game apiece.

In game one the two teams combined for 117 shots and 120 hits in a game that lived up to, and surpassed, expectations.

While it’s unlikely that both teams have the same type of game that Wednesday night provided, one has to assume that there will be even more motivation for each team to win this game than game one. Chicago wants a cushion; Boston doesn’t want to fall into a bigger whole.

It will be interesting to see just how much effect the triple-ot affair has on the teams even with two days off in between games. Will there be tired legs, or will there be too much adrenaline flowing to let fatigue set in. We’ll find out at 8pm Eastern.
