NBA Trade Rumors — The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers are expected to finalize a deal that would send Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers to the Clippers on Thursday. However, former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy thinks that it’s a bad deal for the Clippers.

According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Van Gundy doesn’t like the price the Clippers are forced to pay.

In order to land KG and Doc, the Clippers have to give up two first-round picks and DeAndre Jordan. Initially the Celtics wanted to get Eric Bledsoe as part of the trade, and then wanted to push the Clippers to take either Courtney Lee or Jason Terry as part of the deal. Eventually, the Celtics settled on just an additional first-round pick, which led the Clippers to momentarily pull out of the negotiations.

It’s hard not to agree with SVG on this, but the Clippers need to make this trade nonetheless. If Doc and KG both land in LA, Chris Paul would re-sign with the team, which is kind of a sub-plot of this trade. Paul is pushing the Clippers organization to make this deal, and if going through with it means retaining CP3, the Clippers don’t really have a choice.
