New Orleans Pelicans Could Swap Eric Gordon for Tyreke Evans in Sign-and-Trade Deal with Kings
By Josh Hill
Earlier on Monday morning it was reported that the New Orleans Pelicans could be offering Tyreke Evans a big contract in an effort to steal him away from the Sacramento Kings. While that offer is likely still coming, the Kings look to be trying to save face as much as they can and may end up trading Evans to the Pelicans in the classic sign-and-trade scenario.
Per NOLA.com beat writer John Reid:
"Although not confirmed, the Pelicans could be looking to work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Kings to possibly move point guard Greivis Vasquez or starting shooting guard Eric Gordon."
The move would make a ton of sense as the Pelicans have been reportedly looking to trade away Eric Gordon since as early as the trade deadline this past season. Trading Gordon away to the Kings would be a win-win for all sides involved as Sacramento would be getting something in return for allowing Evans to walk while the Pelican wouls be able to rid themselves of a contract and player they don’t want.
Greivis Vaszuez falls under this as well.
It’s far from being a done deal at this point as the Pelicans haven’t offered a contract to Evans yet. But the two sides did meet for a substantial amount of time on Sunday night and into Monday morning so while talks aren’t solid yet, they’re definitely seeming like they’re on their way to that point very soon.
