San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested Friday morning for a DUI after he crashed his car into a tree with a BAC of .15. Aside from the DUI arrest, police officers also found marijuana pills in his car. Smith has a prescription for the marijuana though.

From the San Jose Mercury News:

"Marijuana and pills also were found in the car, sources said. Smith had a blood alcohol level of .15 — nearly twice the legal limit — and had a prescription for pot, sources said."

The San Francisco 49ers released a statement on the arrest:

"“The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith,” the team said in a statement. “As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment.”"

This isn’t Aldon Smith’s first run-in either. In January of 2012 Smith was arrested in Miami Beach. That charge was reduced to reckless driving. He is also facing potential charges of possessing illegal assault rifles in California, they were bought in Arizona where they’re are legal.

“Discipline for a second or subsequent offense is likely to be a suspension, the duration of which may escalate for repeat offenses,” the policy states.

There are many other off-field incidents in his past as well. It seems like Smith will face some kind of discipline from the NFL.
