Report: Lane Kiffin was fired in LAX parking lot

USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin was fired early Sunday morning following the team’s embarrassing 62-41 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, but the details that have emerged since his firing are stunning and go to show how eager USC was to part ways with the coach.

According to Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News, Kiffin did not return on the team bus after being pulled from the vehicle and fired right in the parking lot.

Better yet, the decision was apparently made during the game to fire Kiffin.

Here are some excerpts from Wolf’s timeline:

If Wolf’s report is 100 percent accurate, then it is an embarrassing end to a horrible tenure with the Trojans.

We already knew that Kiffin was on thin ice, but to be fired in the airport parking lot is just cold. The worst part is that they decided to fire him in-game and then went on to pull him from the team bus in front of his players.

It’s a rough ending to a drama filled tenure with the school.

It almost makes you feel bad for Lane Kiffin.

Doesn’t make me feel bad. What comes around goes around. He bounced through programs with so much selfishness it was insane. Nearly gave Tennessee the death penalty, and now he gets humiliated. Serves him right! Ha!

  • Christine Agnew

Who could feel bad for him? He’s a douche. GBO!

  • bearcat1974

Lane Kiffin was a disgrace as a head coach and more of weak limp wimp who was not respected.Lane will never coach again.

    • David Yost

Agree. This guy needs to find a totally new line of work.
How did he get unto ciaching, anyway – vecause his dad was a coach?

  • bearcat1974

what took USC so long as Lane Lost the team and the nations respect years ago.

  • Darren Drevik

“It almost makes you feel bad for Lane Kiffin.”

    No. No it doesn’t.

  • Natasha Fritts

Karma for what he did to my UT Vols football program, he never cared about our traditions and did his best to destroy what so many before him built. Hope he never works again, he deserves what he is getting and more.

    • Rave on!

As a USC fan, I didn’t like what he did to Tenn. I hope Tenn. never puts a “dream school” clause in their contractd anymore. Both programs have learned from this whole ordeal. Good luck to you guys for the rest of the season.

      • Scotty

What clause was that? Sorry, but I don’t know the history, could someone explain?

        • Mike

As a Gator fan, I hate Kiffin as much as anyone. As far as the clause, Tennessee said the only way out of his contract was if USC offered him a job. He also referred to Tennessee as “USC East” multiple times. Imagine how you’d feel as a Tennessee football player to be called “USC East”.

          • Scotty

Gosh he is a doosh. it sounds like the AD awnd whoever was stupid enough to sign such a contract should be douched as well. Would’ve liked to have been on that bus on the way back LOL.

          • shwb

KIFFIN WAS HONEST. PERIOD. THE CLAUSE WAS THERE- FAIR.

            WHAT KELLY DID WAS BAD!

          • Anthony Joseph Gomes

calling the vols USC east was pretty tactless..agreed.

        • amillee

This meant that if any of his “dream schools” offered him Head Coaching job, he could break his contract.

    • Christopher TheCharmer Tillis

I’m a Gators fan, and I feel really bad for the Vols. I’d love to see the Vols return to their former glory! I never have liked Coach Kiffin. If yoiur current coach does NOT work out, you all should consider hiring Bobby Bowden!

  • Britt Fox

    No, it doesn’t

  • Becky Burton Pritchard

I’d be surprised if you could find ONE person who feels bad for Lane ‘Miley Cyrus’ Kiffykins. I am CERTAINLY not a UT fan but over the years we had one coach who tried to change our traditions (looking at you Mr. Perkins for tearing down the Bear’s tower and for other things I won’t list) and one tell us to ‘hold the rope’ while he ran out the back door (looking at you Mr Francione). They got all that in one year with one douche-nozzle not to mention he teams near got the the death penalty. Then Pete Carroll leaves USC with the program on massive probation, after which hey have to endure the Monty and Lane show too. The dude is a pox. He should never work in football again.

    • John Morgan

I said BOOOO HOOOO!!!!! What else do you want????? LOL LOL

    • Ron Lawrence

I remember what those losers did to us but we are ROLLING now.RTR!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/fred.giles Fred Giles

Serves the lying weasel right! I woudn’t have let him on the team plane

  • J.Lewis

USC is an embarrassing institution for firing their coach that way.

    • Brenda Seals

Really? Kiffin is the embarrassment. He left Tennessee in the middle of the night after lying to team.

  • Conservative Citizen

No I don’t feel bad for that big mouth at all. Tennessee fans are doing back flips right now.

  • Rev_Aggie_98

Not liking a guy doesn’t justify doing things in a horrible way (I’m looking at you A&M Board of Regents), so I feel for him. The firing should have happened in a more professional manner.

  • Ellis

While Lane Kiffin deserves no love I find it hilarious that USC and Haden miraculuously found a way to make Kiffin look like the classy one in this whole mess. Seriously, the guy is saddled with sanctions from Carroll’s cheating scandals and Hayden’s unrealistic expectations and they fire him at the airport? That is funny. Who in their right mind would want to coach at this train wreck of a program?

  • John Morgan

I feel real bad for him!!!!! BOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  • John Morgan

Man are your dead family members turning over in their grave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 62—41 Can you say A$$ WHOOPIN.? Oh That’s right youguy’s don’t do defense do you. Hey it’s fun. Give it a try. They could have made it easy on you and fired you in front of your kids and family!!!!!!!

  • John MasterGuns Lewis

No, it doesn’t “almost make me feel bad” for the jackwagon. The UT Vols almost got the death penalty because of him. But to his credit while at USC, I haven’t heard any stories about him sending hookers across state lines to entice high school seniors to commit to his program, so maybe he did learn something.

  • Hit Manfan

He sucked and he was an asshole. Firing in the parking lot sounds about right.

  • Hunter Davis

Being a Tennessee alumni, all I have to say is “Karma’s a bitch”.

  • Helllo Dave

The only thing I feel bad about is that the bus didn’t run him over when it left.

  • Brooks Wade

Living in the Knoxville area, of course UT is my home team. I’ve always liked USC because they have always fought hard and have always been a tough team. I can’t believe Kiffin has wrecked another program. I’m sure he got what he deserved. Here in the Vol state, we are saying, Go Trojans!

  • Dan Lacobie

feel sorry for him?? my big ol’ butt.. I’m a huge dawg fan but what he did to our fellow SEC team is unexcusable… it’s good enough for that little puke… hope he never gets another head coaching job

  • liffnats

Not only did he leave Tenn during the middle of the night, he did it 2 weeks before signing day, and called all commitments from the incoming class, and tried to get them to come to USC with him. Not only do I not feel sorry for him, I also don’t feel sorry for those kids that jumped ship with him. They should have fired him during the flight, and pulled him off the plane without a chUTe! GBO

  • Jerry Robertson

Lane Kiffin has proven to be an egotistical selfish man. His short-sighted self-seeking shenanigans have finally caught up with him. He left the University of Tennessee in shambles after trying to change lifelong traditions and telling his star players to transfer to USC. He left Tennessee at midnight, after a two hour notice of resigning, in order not to face the news, public and his players. His shifty unethical behavior with questionable corrupt assistant coaches will prevent reputable establishments from ever hiring him. Just wait for the NCAA to start the investigation at USC because of his actions.

  • Artist Larry Pitts

This was sorry of USC to fire him the way they did and pull him off the bus??Uncall for. Now i know why i dislike USC. They have no morals and no class!!

    • football fan

I agree. The bad part is….he was put in after the freeze was put on SC when Reggie Bush fucked things up..and took the Heisman away from him…He was trying to work with someones mess.

  • renewyourmind

    R.I.P. (Retire In Peace)

  • David Yost

USC’s problem is not just the coach. The players are soft physically and mentally. They have an attitude that because they are USC, they are good. It doesn’t work that way. They have to play the game. Other teams are hard and hungry. USC’s nickname is: University of Spoiled Children; it is accurate.

  • Aaron Morphet

if layla needs a place to stay, as a true humanitarian i volunteer my services.

  • toyguytn

They should have fired him in Arizona and left him there.

  • michael10sley

I don’t feel bad at all. Kiffin road the coattails of his father into coaching with no talent of his own and it _finally caught up with him.
All the SEC is pleased, but especially Tennessee after the way Kiffin treated them. He got the ignominious treatment he deserved.
    Well done, Pat Haden.

  • Scotty

This reminds me of Jerry McGuire bachellor party.

Whether your black , white, hispanic, Whether your rich, poor, republican, democrat, shiite, sunni israeli. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, who your are, we can all agree that LANE KIFFEN is a dooshe. LOL

  • JordanMomto4

Ain’t nobody feeling bad for LAME Kiffin. He went out in a blaze with the Oakland Raiders, He absolutely screwed the people of VOL Nation over and now screws up a very good USC Program in 3 1/2 yrs. How could anyone feel sorry for the man. Very Overrated Football Coach and a horrible person! Hope he doesn’t find a job for awhile. Might do something good for his overinflated ego.

  • Sam Maynard

What goes around, comes around, as the old saying states.

  • Bamatami

Well, it could have been worse…they could have handed him a parachute on the plane…

  • kpickett15

Karma. He is such a punk.

  • Cyn Nickel

This incident was handled very poorly. After trying to read through all the posts on the internet and various web sites, I’ve come to the conclusion that the athletic department at USC is composed of a bunch of spoiled little boy brats.

I could care less one way or another – but this isn’t how a university should handle removing one of their employees from their service. And trust me when I say this, the entire football program’s terrible performance history in the past year is not all Kiffin’s fault.

    • Brent Seaman

OK Lane, drop the old man face and come clean…

  • ChaosOnion

Firing someone like that is very unprofessional.

  • shwb

It really does. USC gave him a bed of sheets. Now he treated like this. Who is surprised that a team with hardly enough scholarships doesn’t have the depth to compete? Who is surprised that USC will have one of its worst losses while it is sanctioned.

Haden is a delusional idiot, along with Nikias and if McKay wants to be included in this decision making.

Also, I can’t stand Kelly for the way he left his team and went to Notre Dame. He left them coachless for a bowl game in an undefeated season. He’s a real ass poop.

Kiffin left after the season. It was one of those opportunities that he couldn’t pass up. You have to live in CA to really understand.

USC had no class the way they fire now obviously. A bunch of rookies Haden and Nikias are.

NEW RECRUIT COACHES STAY WHERE YOU ARE– OR YOU ARE NEXT. USC FANS ARE BRUTAL AND THE ADMIN DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THEM/SANCTIONS/THE TEAM. AS COACH YOU WOULDN’T HAVE THE POWER LIKE YOU HAVE OTHER PLACES. YOU COULD GET A CALL AT 2 A.M. AND BE OUT- LET’S BE HONEST. YOUR FUTURE IS NOT BRIGHT BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEEN HOW USC ACTS TOWARD THOSE THAT COME TO ITS HELP WHEN THEY HAVE A FULL DIAPER. YOU ARE JUST THERE FOR A DIAPER CHANGE AND THEN THEY WILL THROW YOU OUT OF THEIR HOUSE.

P.U. HADEN AND NIKIAS STINK. KIFFIN IS TALENTED WHEN HE HAS THE TALENT, WHEN HE ISN’T SANCTIONED . . . 2010 SHOWS IT. I DOUBT HADEN GAVE KIFFIN THE SUPPORT AND SHUFFLED IT UP. KIFFIN IS AN UNDERVALUED COMMODITY RIGHT NOW. BUT HE WILL RISE.

    • Brent Seaman

      this must be Lane posting….

  • Jay Medeiros

Sorry but I don’t feel bad for him. He really hosed Tennessee and karma has a very long memory. Go Big Orange

  • chattvol

As a life-long TN fan I’ve always admired the USC Trojans tradition–and beating Notre Dame over the years. USC will hire a great coach and rise back to the top quickly with all of the great talent in California. Good Luck USC>–Karma Mr Kitten.

  • RJ

“It almost makes you feel bad for Lane Kiffin.”

First thing that came to mind was Cuba Gooding Jr’s line from Jerry McGuire – yeah, Boo F**king Hoo. Karma wheel can be a real bitch.

That having been said, the way SC handled it was cold – ice cold. Prospective players and students should take note – at the end of the day, it’s about how you deal with people.

  • Anthony Joseph Gomes

where are all the trojan fans who were jumping for joy when kiffen was hired? pat haden is the one who hired him but they still see haden as the white knight who will save them. is that what U$C means by tradition?

  • WadeCollins

Haden learned what Al Davis knew, Kiffin is a punk and a loser. Love the way Big Al fired him, and held a 2 part press conference complete with a half time break.
