There are few people in the NBA like Nick Young. Humbly nicknamed “Swaggy P”, he is a guy that likes to have fun both on and off the court. He also likes to shoot–a lot.

Young signed a two year deal with the Lakers this past summer (2nd year is a player option), and he was looking to change his reputation. Young is viewed as a gunner who shoots every time he touches the ball, and can cause coaches to pull their hair out. He has played pretty decent for the Lakers this season, averaging 15.4 points per game. He seems to be making better decisions when he shoots the ball, and he has actually been a big reason why the Lakers are hovering around .500.

So why does it seem like Swaggy P has been less of a knucklehead? He told SLAM that the jersey is a big reason why:

"“The Clippers got a lot of hype with all the highlights they do. Obviously, they got a better record than us right now,” he says, “but Lakers is tradition. I grew up being a Laker fan. The city always being Lakers fans. I remember going to the Laker parades after winning Championships. It’s nothing like being a Laker. It changed my view of the NBA right now, being a Laker.”Asked to elaborate, he says, “We’re rockstars over here [laughs]. It’s been fun, I’m enjoying it.”"

I’m not entirely sure what he means by that, but you can tell he is loving every minute of it. Nick Young is a true gunner, as he doesn’t turn the ball over a lot, or pass, he just shoots it every chance he gets. It’s good to see that he respects the tradition of a historic franchise.

Never change, Swaggy.
