The Houston Teans moved fast and quick to hire Bill O’Brien as their next head coach, and part of the process of bringing him on board was cleaning out the entire staff including defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Initially there was a repot that former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel had been hired as the new defensive coordinator but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapopot, this isn’t yet the case.
Rapoport states that Crennel informed him that he’s still unemployed, despite rumors that the Texans are eyeing him as part of their new staff.
Good chance that Romeo Crennel becomes #Texans DC. But not yet. Just texted me, “Still unemployed.” Will coach East-West game in 2 weeks

There’s a good chance that the Texans indeed hire Crennel and it could even happen before the East-West game in a few weeks. Crennel hasn’t been on too many radars, so it’s not as though the Texans are in a bidding war with anyone to hire him, but O’Brien would like to have his staff assembled as soon as possible which means Crennel won’t likely stay unemployed long.
