Steelers rumors: Cardinals, Texans would be interested in Ben Roethlisberger

During the 2013 NFL season, reports had surfaced that Ben Roethlisberger was unhappy with the Pittsburgh Steelers and that he could seek a trade in the offseason. Since the initial rumors began, Roethlisberger and his camp heavily denied them, but there are two teams who would reportedly have interest if he becomes available.

According to Walter Football, the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans would be interested in making a move for Roethlisberger if the trade market heats up.

The Cardinals are one of the most intriguing team that is reportedly interested in the Steelers veteran, who is entering the final year of his contract, because they are already a team on the rise and a top-flight quarterback could be exactly what the team needs to get over the hump. Add in Roethlisberger’s familiarity with Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, and it would be a perfect fit.

For Houston, they would be able to emulate a deal that the Kansas City Chiefs made with the San Francisco 49ers just one year ago.

With the top pick in the second-round of the 2014 NFL Draft and a conditional 2015 pick, Pittsburgh would be able to reload their roster and begin building for the future while Houston would get a quarterback that could help the team finally live up to their high hopes.

The Roethlisberger trade rumors had been dying down, but if he is unable to make progress in contract talks with the Steelers this offseason he could begin asking for a trade.

No less than a first round pick for him. A well established QB, two time Super Bowl champion, his skills and worth to the team equate a first round pick. Not to mention he is not even that old.

I get what your saying, but the beating he’s taken over the course of his career makes his body a lot older than his actual age. IMHO I think the trade value mentioned above is a pretty fair assessment of what a team would probably be willing to offer. But let’s face this guy is going nowhere.

I suspect there would be around 15-20 teams interested in Roethlisberger. Hmm…maybe I should become a member of the Football Writers Association of America
