Mexico vs. Nigeria final score: El Tri, Super Eagles finish in nil-nil tie

The Mexican national soccer team met Nigeria for an international friendly on Wednesday night in Atlanta, Georgia, as the teams began their final stages of preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

During the early going of the game, Nigeria was able to dominate with their speed and movement throughout the midfield, but Mexico was able to find some quality chances during the later stages of the first half.

Unfortunately, the pacing of the game slowed considerably in the final minutes as the Nigerian squad was continuously staying on the turf with injuries.

After the first half of lay, the game remained scoreless.

The first exciting moment of the second half came ten minutes in when a giant smoke bomb went off in the crowd. Luckily, everyone in the crowd remained under control. Both teams were picking up the physicality as the game went on, but neither side was able to find scoring opportunities.

Around the 65th minute, the pace of the game was picking up and each squad found themselves with quality attacking chances.

Vincent Enyeama came up with a huge save for Nigeria to keep the game tied after the best scoring opportunity of the game. Raúl Jiménez followed up that opportunity with another great strike, but it went just wide of the net for El Tri.

Mexico kept the pressure on in the second half, as Nigeria began piling up the yellow cards with their frustration building.

Enyeama continued turning away the Mexican attack with El Tri getting closer and closer to putting one into the back of the net. The smoke bombs eventually reappeared on the field in the final minute, but they were quick to get the devices off the field and resume action.

With four minutes of stoppage time added, the pressure was on to find the net and secure a win. Nigeria had the final chance of the game, but the set piece went wide.

When the final whistle sounded, we were left with a nil-nil tie after quality performances from both goaltenders as both teams bid farewell to their European based players for the final time before the World Cup.
