Ladies and gentlemen, Opening Day is officially here…at least tomorrow. We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since the final out of the World Series was recorded between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Now speaking of the Boston Red Sox, the Baltimore Orioles kick off their Opening Day series tomorrow afternoon against the Boston Red Sox. Before the Orioles take on the World Series champions, they’ve made several roster moves that features infielder Manny Machado.

Machado is currently recovering from surgery to repair a torn medial patellofemoral ligament in his left knee, which has to be frustrating for the young infielder. Rehab appears to be going well for Machado, so if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks, he could return to the starting lineup by the end of April or beginning of May.

Orioles placed several others on the 15-day disabled list, including Michael Almanzar, Francisco Peguero, Nolan Reimold, Edgmer Escalona and purchased the contracts of Delmon Young and Evan Meek.

Almanzar’s move to the disabled list is retroactive to March 23rd. He was added to the disabled list with left patellar tendinitis.

Peguero was added after he suffered a strained right wrist. He made the jump to Baltimore during the Winter after he was non-tendered by the San Francisco Giants.

Reimold is quite familiar with the disabled list, but this time he suffered a neck injury. He’s missed a decent amount of time over the last couple seasons because of a similar issue, so it looks like he’ll be spending  little bit more time on the DL. No word on how long he’ll be out.

Escalona was moved to the 60-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder, something that has been bothering him since the beginning of March. He hasn’t starting throwing yet and is expected to miss the first two or three months of the season.

With Reimold falling to another neck injury, the Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of outfielder Delmon Young. Young hit 11 home runs, collected 38 RBI’s off 87 hits with a batting line of .260/.307/.407.

Right handed pitcher Evan Meek has his contract purchased by the Orioles from Triple-A Norfolk. Meek made the Major League roster with a solid 1.00 ERA and K/BB ratio of 10/0 over nine innings of work this Spring.

Left handed pitcher Michael Belfiore was designated for assignment.
